Overview
Commandr is a desktop app for Mac that puts AI agents to work inside your projects. Agents can read and write files in the project folder, install packages, and run scripts like tests and builds, while you keep an eye on what each one is doing. It is free during beta and runs on your own AI provider keys or on local models, so your code never passes through Commandr's servers.
What I'm building
Agents that work in your project
Each agent works directly in the project folder: editing files, installing packages, and running tests and builds. Checkpoints let you undo a run if it goes the wrong way.
Bring your own model
Use your own key for DeepSeek, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or OpenRouter, or run local models through Ollama or LM Studio. A cost meter estimates spend, and a budget can stop automatic runs before they get expensive.
Private by design
Commandr runs no servers that see your code. There is no analytics, ad tracking or crash reporting, and the only account data kept is a name and email.
Intended workflow
- Sign in with a free Commandr account and add an AI provider key or a local model.
- Open a project and give agents the tasks you want done.
- Follow their progress, review the changes, and roll back with a checkpoint if needed.
Behind the build
Currently in beta
Commandr is at v0.5.0 and free while in beta. It is built with Electron, with Clerk handling accounts and licences, and every build ships its own third-party notices file.
